    States of Light and Meanings

Sure, if you see the blinking blue light during the setup, it is totally alright. But if you come across these two states of light on a random day, it means another issue is at play. In that case, multiple causes could be there for the Eero blinking blue light.

Common Causes for Eero Blinking Blue

Let’s look at some common causes for the Eero blinking blue light problem. We are trying to be as exhaustive as possible here, and it means including all potential matches.

    • Bluetooth Broadcasting: Your Eero router could be showing the blinking blue light because it entered the Bluetooth pairing mode. If you turned on the option, you could connect another device to the router, and the Eero would exit the Bluetooth Broadcasting mode.
    • Ready for Setup: Some Amazon Eero models use the blinking blue light to indicate that the router is ready for setup. This is why we said you could see the Blue light when you power on the Eero router for the first time.
    • WPS Mode: On previous generation models of Eero routers, the blinking blue light may appear due to WPS Mode as well. This means the device has entered WPS mode and is ready to pair with other WPS-enabled devices.
    • Faulty Connections: Sometimes, faulty connections may also trigger the blinking blue light on Eero Wi-Fi devices. It may happen if you have plugged a cable into the wrong port (say, a LAN cable into the WAN port).
    • ISP Issues: Your Eero Wi-Fi device relies on the signals from the ISP. So, in some rare instances, issues from the ISP side can cause the blinking blue light. In this particular case, the blue light indicates that the router cannot connect to the Internet.
    • Software Glitch: Another common reason for a blinking blue light is an ongoing firmware glitch in the Eero router. You can solve this problem in most cases by updating the firmware or resetting the Wi-Fi router.
    • Faulty Device: While uncommon, a defective unit of the Amazon Eero Wi-Fi router can also show a blinking blue light when the device is not actually in pairing/setup mode. In this case, however, you can easily get a replacement.

We will use these reasons as the reference for structuring the how-to part of the guide.

How to Fix Eero Blinking Blue

Depending on when you see the blinking blue light on your Eero Wi-Fi router, one of the following solutions will help you fix the Eero blinking blue light issue.

    #1 Complete the Setup

If you came across the blinking blue light on the Eero Wi-Fi router during setup, it is a worry-free affair. You can continue the setup by following the on-screen instructions on the Eero app. If everything is connected correctly, you should see the white solid light, indicating that the router is connected to the Internet. Keep in mind that the router will blink white for a few seconds before showing the solid white light.

Complete the Setup if Eero Blinking Blue

    #2 Complete/Exit Bluetooth Pairing

Eero Wi-Fi routers require a Bluetooth connection to set up and connect your account to the Eero service. It will show a blinking blue status LED light when entering the Bluetooth pairing mode. This may happen on its own during the setup process.

You can turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone, connect to the Eero router, and complete the necessary steps to get rid of the pairing mode. If you want to exit Bluetooth pairing mode, you can do it by power-cycling the Eero router.

    #3 Reconnect the Eero Device

If the blinking blue light does not go away even after exiting the Bluetooth pairing mode or completing the setup, you may want to reconnect the Eero device. You can use the Eero app on your Android smartphone or iPhone to complete this step.

Open the Eero app > select the Eero device in question > go to Settings > and remove the Eero device. After this, you can use the typical methods to connect the Eero device to your network. The device should work perfectly and show a solid white light.

    #4 Check Cables and Ports

As I said before, if you have not properly connected the cables and ports, the Eero device may not function correctly and will show a blinking blue light. There are two things you should check.

One, make sure that you have connected the right cables to the correct ports. That is, if you are connecting the Ethernet cable from the modem, it should go to the WAN port instead of the LAN port. Likewise, ensure that you are using the first-party cables that you got with the package instead of random cables to connect to the LAN/WAN ports.

Check Cables and Ports if Eero Blinking Blue

While you are at it, you should also check whether you have connected the Ethernet cable properly to the ISP modem or the outlet.

    #5 Restart the Network

I take it that you have already tried re-plugging the power cable. However, you may want to restart the Wi-Fi network through the Eero app itself. The steps you need to follow are:

    1. On the Eero app on your smartphone, navigate to Settings
    2. Go to Advanced > Reset
    3. Restart Network > Restart Network

After this confirmation, the Eero Wi-Fi router will restart and attempt to reconnect to the Internet. Based on the condition, the reset processes may take up to 5 or 10 minutes. Be patient until the status lights reappear on the device.

    #6 Power Cycle the Router

If the blinking blue light persists, you can try power cycling the Eero Wi-Fi router. The steps are simple:

    1. Disconnect the power cable from the router and the outlet
    2. Now, unplug all the Ethernet cables
    3. Wait for 10 minutes
    4. Connect the necessary Ethernet cables
    5. Power on the device and wait for it to boot up

A power cycle should remove temporary bugs from the system and force a reconnection to the modem and the network. It has a high chance of eliminating the strange occurrences of the blinking blue light issue.

#7 Soft Reset the Eero Router

Soft Reset is a relatively easier yet effective way to reset the router. It is a handy option when you don’t want to lose all your preferences but want to fix the issues nevertheless.

A soft reset will remove all the network configuration settings from the device. Yet, the process will retain other settings such as port forwarding configuration and IP reservations. Moreover, the process does not remove the Eero Wi-Fi router from the network. The steps for a soft reset are as follows.

    Soft Reset the Eero Router
    1. Locate the Reset button on the Eero Wi-Fi router. It would be an oval button that you can find on the back/side of the router. On some Eero devices, the button would be inside a hole, and you need to use a SIM ejector or a safety pin to press it.
    2. Press and hold the button for around 7 seconds, and the status light will show Flashing Yellow. At this point, release the button.
    3. The light will flash white and blue during the setup process. Once there is an active connection, the Eero router will show a steady white light.

At this point, you should have a stable internet connection through the Eero Wi-Fi routers.

#8 Factory Reset the Eero Router

If a soft reset does not solve the blinking blue light issue, you may want to try factory resetting the device. It is a straightforward process to reset all settings and remove the device from the network and the app. You will have to add the device from scratch. I’d recommend this option if you are looking for a clean start. The steps are:

    1. Press and hold the Reset for at least 15 seconds
    2. The status LED light will flash red when the Reset process begins
    3. During the process, you will see flashing white and blue colors on the light
    4. Once you see the white light, you can proceed with the setup

During the setup, you need to add the device to the network and connect the Wi-Fi router through the app. After this process, you will have Internet access.

    #9 Get Assistance/Replacement

If the blinking blue light does not go away even after a factory reset, you must seek assistance from Eero. It is safe to assume that you have a faulty Wi-Fi router/mesh node. If the device is under warranty, you would receive a replacement. Even when out of warranty, the device will receive assistance from Eero.

    Conclusion

If you can locate the potential reasons, fixing the Eero blinking light is not a big deal. If we are dealing with a device-specific issue, you can solve the problem through a factory reset. However, I’d ask you to check the ISP side as well. Issues with Eero routers are common when you use an ISP-provided modem in bridge mode. So, before you proceed with a factory reset, check with the ISP as well.
