Default IP Addresses
You may not understand the term Default Router IP Address if you had a technician set up the Internet and Wi-Fi for you. But if you ever want to change the Wi-Fi SSID or password or modify other aspects of the network, you need to access the default router IP address.
However, finding the default router address of your Wi-Fi network is comparatively easy. In this guide, you will find step-by-step instructions for PC and Mac.
Why Do You Need the Default Router IP Address?
You need access to the router web interface if you want to make changes to the network. For instance, you may want to change the Wi-Fi network password or turn on/off a specific feature.
By entering the router IP address on a browser URL bar, you can access the web interface and make those changes.
How to Find Your Router IP Address
Here, I will provide the steps you can follow to find the default router IP address of your Wi-Fi router.
On Windows
You can use the Command Prompt on Windows to find out the default router IP address of the network. Of course, the Windows PC must be connected to the same network. The steps are as follows.
- Open Command Prompt through Search or Start Menu
- To be on the safe side, you can choose Run as Administrator
- Once the Command Prompt window appears, you can enter the following command
Ipconfig
- In a second, the Command Prompt will show you a variety of information.
- Go to the section called Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi.
- Here, against an entry called Default Gateway, you can find an IP address.

In this case, the default IP address is 192.168.0.1. Depending on the router and configuration, the IP address will vary.
On Mac
The steps for finding the default IP address of a router using a Mac are slightly different. You don’t need a command-line interface.
- Make sure that you are connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
- Click the Wi-Fi icon on the menu bar and choose Wi-Fi Settings
- On the upcoming page, click Details next to the connected network

- On this page, you can see an IP address against the entry Router
In this case, the router IP address is 192.168.0.1. Depending on the model of the router, you may see another IP address, though.
An Alternate Method
If you cannot use your system, you can find the default router IP address on the back of the Wi-Fi router. It is printed as a part of the label, which also contains the credentials for the admin dashboard.
