Virgin Media routers are the easiest way to connect to the Internet when you have an Internet connection from the Virgin Media Group. In most cases, the ISP sets up everything, providing a plug-and-play access to the Internet. Yet, when you want to modify the network and its settings, you may need to access the Virgin Media router’s dashboard. In this article, I will guide you on how to access Virgin Media Router settings from your computer easily.
Default Logins for Virgin Media Router
An essential thing you need to access Virgin Media Router settings is the set of default credentials for the said router. In most cases, you can use the following credentials to make this work:
- Username: [random username]
- Password: admin
You may also want to check if the credentials have been printed on the router’s product label. This label can be found on the rear or side of the router. It also contains the device’s default IP address. You would need both of these to access the router’s dashboard and modify settings.

In addition to these credentials, you will need the following items to access the Virgin Media router.
- A computer connected to the Virgin Media router, preferably using Ethernet; Wi-Fi also works.
- A modern web browser like Google Chrome, Safari, or Edge.
Note: You can use your smartphone to access these settings, but you’ll appreciate the extra screen real estate while navigating a router dashboard.
How to Access Virgin Media Router Settings
If you have completed all the steps mentioned in the previous section, you can follow this guide to access the settings page of your Virgin Media router.
#1 Open the Dashboard
Ensure that you have a stable connection to the Virgin Media router. You can then open a web browser, such as Google Chrome or Safari. On this browser, enter the following IP address in the URL bar:
The IP address above is referred to as the default router’s IP address. You can think of it as the address of your router on a street. Once you press the Enter key, the router may take a few seconds to load the page.
#2 Enter the Credentials
Depending on the exact model of your Virgin Media router, you may see one of the login interfaces. You now need to enter the username and password for the router. We have already provided some default options; please recheck the router label.

Keep in mind that default credentials work only if you haven’t changed them before. Don’t worry if you can’t log in; we have a solution.
#3 Explore the Dashboard
If you entered the correct credentials, you should now be seeing the dashboard for your Virgin Media router. Depending on the interface, you can navigate across the panel and access various settings, including Wi-Fi, Network, Device, and more.
For instance, during the initial setup, you may want to change the router’s SSID and password. Or, you may want to enable QoS or other settings.
By the way, you may need another method if you have set up the Virgin Media router in modem-only mode.
As you know, you can use the Virgin Media router in Bridge Mode, which lets you connect a third-party Wi-Fi router to the network. In this setup, however, you must take the following steps to access the modem settings.
- You must connect your computer to the modem using an Ethernet cable. Wi-Fi wouldn’t work this time.
- Now, enter http://192.168.100.1 in the URL bar of a browser like Google Chrome and press Enter.
- When the login interface appears, enter the credentials we mentioned above.
You should now have access to the Virgin Media router’s dashboard page. You need this access option to set up a different router or reconfigure the Virgin Media router as a router and modem.
Reset Virgin Media Router to Factory Settings
The process of resetting a Virgin Media Router to factory settings is handy in some circumstances, such as:
- Your Virgin Media router isn’t working as it should. You may be facing speed/connectivity issues.
- You cannot access the router dashboard because you forgot the credentials.
- You want to return the router to the company and have it thoroughly cleaned.
In these cases, follow the steps below to perform a factory reset on the router. While you can factory reset the device from the dashboard, the hardware-based method makes more sense. This method works even if you don’t have the login credentials.
- Make sure you have disconnected all network cables from the router, including the coaxial cable. You just need the power cable to ensure power delivery.
- Now, locate the Reset button on the rear side of the Virgin Media router. On some models, the Reset button could be elsewhere. Some models may want you to use a safety pin to access the button.
- Press and hold the Reset button for at least 15 to 20 seconds; you can release the button when the router’s status lights start blinking.
- Depending on the model, the reset and reboot process will take up to 5 minutes. Be patient and ensure that the device gets a consistent power supply.
Once the status lights stabilize, you can confirm that the router has been successfully reset to its factory settings. You can now connect to the Virgin Media router via Ethernet and access the Settings page using the default credentials. A factory reset also ensures that the device works flawlessly.
Wrapping Up
I hope this guide helped you access the Virgin Media router settings page for configuration or settings. You may find this helpful, even if you use a less popular router configuration model.
